Mending a Torn Deck Screen

1. Remove the Old Spline and Screen
Remove roughly 1 foot of the lower piece of the spline with a screwdriver or eye-hook. Then, pull the rest of the spline out slowly and steadily using your hands. Lift and remove the old screen.

2. Measure and Cut the New Screen
Place the old screen against the new screen, and measure the perimeter. Use the knife and ruler to cut the new screen to match the old screen. It’s better to overestimate the size of the screen than to cut it too small. If you have too much screen, you can still trim it's installed.

3. Hang the New Screen
Start by lining up the top left corner of the screen in the upper-left corner. Raise the screen material roughly 2 inches beyond the framing. This will deliver a taut deck screen surface. Install the new screen, and use painters tape to keep it in place while getting all of the corners settled.

4. Feed the Spline Through the Spline Roller
Gently enter the spline piece into the roller aligning with edges in place. Press in all the way along the spline to fully set and seal the spline into the roller component.

5. Roll the Spline Into Place
Push the spline into place along the frame or aluminum base to secure the new screen. Do not pull the screen to tighten it until at least 3 sides of the section are firmly installed.

6. Trim the Extra Screen
Use an Exacto™ knife to cut away extra screen along the edges. A box-cutter knife may be used instead, however, be sure to remain extremely steady and careful as the tendency to over-cut is common with such tricky knives. Remove the tape used to hold the screen in place and your project is complete!

Adding screen is a perfect way to polish off your outdoor area or poolhouse space
